The lines you croon are oh so smooth, way down deep in the jar The band is cooking, such a grove, way down deep in the jar Jason and the Scorchers, Tommy and the Torchers, they all think they’re ZZ Top When they’re way down deep in the jar They sound just like ZZ Top when you’re way down deep in the jar Your fiddle sounds like a bass guitar, way down deep in the jar Your drum kit’s an exploding star, way down deep in the jar Jason and the Scorchers, Tommy and the Torchers, they all think they’re the Rolling Stones When they’re way down deep in the jar They sound just like the Rolling Stones when you’re way down deep in the jar Lord have mercy, I’m starting to mumble, way down deep in the jar Still my feet so I don’t stumble, way down deep in the jar Lord have mercy, I’m starting to mumble, way down deep in the jar Jason and the Scorchers, Tommy and the Torchers, they all think they’re the Red Idle Rejects Way down deep in the jar They sound just like the Red Idle Rejects, way down deep in the jar Way down deep in the jar Half of this crowd sings better than me, way down deep in the jar Slightly wobbly, way off-key, way down deep in the jar Jason and the Scorchers, Tommy and the Torchers They all think they’re the Red Idle Rejects, way down deep in the jar Lord have mercy, we’re the Red Idle Rejects, way down deep in the jar

Walk inside a blind man’s shoes to help you find your way See too much too clearly and you throw your love away Run your eyes across the pages of love’s discontent Run your fingers ‘cross the face of someone Heaven-sent It’s the blind leading the blind, leading the blind, that’s the way they see Blind leading the blind, leading the blind, that’s the way they see Circus clowns and acrobats perform without a net A blind man walking on that wire, but he ain’t fallen yet We are actors on love’s stage, playing out our parts We need no script, no dialogue, love comes from the heart It’s the blind leading the blind, leading the blind, that’s the way they see Blind leading the blind, leading the blind, that’s the way they see So may his love come capture you, burning out your eyes May his love illuminate you until it blinds Yeah, some will see, and some will not, there ain’t no in-between Love is blind, and so am I, so much to be seen….by It’s the blind leading the blind, leading the blind, that’s the way they see Blind leading the blind, leading the blind, that’s the way they see

The Kentucky coal-king hero, he withers the fruit Knows the way in, and his friends follow suit The vanquished and forsaken, they dig in the dark Pray the miner next to you don’t strike no random spark We been ripping rock all day ‘cause we found us a rich seam When the ceiling gives away, will they even hear us scream? But there’s a reason, he tells you, it’s just that it’s set But in the back of his mind perhaps a twinge of regret He shows you the pictures, the words, and the signs As if its all constructed through Heaven’s design He leans to you close, whiskey-breathes his position He says, why interfere, man, you know it’s just tradition He knows what he’s got, and what it took to get there He shrugs and he speaks, he says I’m only getting my share He says I worked so hard so long, and now’s my time to thrive Let others work ‘til death, man, just trying to survive I’ll answer your question, man, you think we’re both the same? We’ll only be equals when we’re laying in the grave CHORUS The castle is dark, and them knights, they’re all stoned And this king ain’t no different than the one he’s dethroned You scratch your brother’s back, and you whisper in his ear You say I can’t help you now son, but just wait until next year But sometimes castle walls, well they tumble to the ground And Ink and Nicotine are all that’s left to be found CHORUS

We paint a portrait, me and you, one sad and simple shade of blue No variation on our grief lies on this page in bright relief Our brush will hold no other hue, we splash it on ‘til it soaks right through Red and pink and green won’t do, our palette a simple shade of blue Love and life are multi-hued, one day we’ll see them colors new But now a simple shade of blue adorns our page, and it soaks right through We grab a brush, and we smear all that blue into one big tear We watch it drip down to the floor, as if we’d ever grieve no more Our brush will hold no other hue, we splash it on ‘til it soaks right through Red and pink and green won’t do, our palette a simple shade of blue Nothing on this earth means more to me than you All the tears we cry just meld right into blue…. Colors shine and sparkle, too, but for now there’s just these shades of blue But soon we’ll march out, me and you, to discover brand new shades of blue Love each other through new shades of blue Love those now gone through shades of blue

I walk the courtyard, hand in hand, with the one I love, on these tiles we stand These courtyard tiles sparkle and shine, reflections on a love divine No hand lies gentler, more divine, than that which lies entwined with mine These tiles are ragged, passing straight, but all these years they’ve borne our weight But look close, a tile is chipped I see, imperfection staring back at me I laid these tiles haphazardly, but I love you, and you love me A child’s artwork etched on a tile; stick-figured, ragged crayon smile And there’s the spot where dolls once laid, on weathered tiles our children played The sun doth fade what once was new, but it cannot dim my love for you These tiles we tread hold love between the crevasses and cracks unseen But look close, a tile is chipped I see, imperfection staring back at me I laid these tiles haphazardly, but I love you, and you love me I am no master handy-man, I laid these tiles the best I can When we are gone, they’ll tread these tiles, God bless stick-figured crayon smiles But look close, a tile is chipped I see, imperfection staring back at me I laid these tiles haphazardly, but I love you, and you love me but I love you and they love you and they love me…..and you love me

My wife asked me on Christmas Day, will you love me forever? I took her to the garden, said look down, it’s carved in stone Our love is carved in stone, our love is carved in stone You’ll never be alone ‘cause our love is carved in stone I found a field-stone in our meadow, shaped just like a heart Carved a message on that stone, and laid it in our garden Our love is carved in stone, our love is carved in stone You’ll never be alone ‘cause our love is carved in stone What was the message carved in that stone? What was the message carved in that stone? Bob and Marian Gleason, 1949 to forever Shelby and Florence Bowling, 1954 to forever Steve and Julia Bowling, 2003 to forever There are generations of love carved in that stone, there are generations…. Our love is carved in stone, our love is carved in stone You’ll never be alone ‘cause our love is carved in stone Our love is carved in stone, our love is carved in stone You’ll never be alone ‘cause our love is carved in stone

about

Red Idle Rejects Cincinnati, Ohio

The Red Idle Rejects formed in 2014 when Steve Bowling brought his country-flavored tunes to his band-mates in Red Idle, who deemed the tunes "too country". Bowling formed a new band to play those tunes, giving it the tongue-in-cheek new band name. The bab has played in the greater Cincinnati region, throughout Kentucky and down to Florida since. ... more
